Action Research has been at the heart of our Centres for Excellence in Maths project since the outset. It’s an organic, practitioner-led form of research that benefits both learners and teachers alike. We’ve been lucky enough, as a team, to support, guide and implement a variety of Action Research projects across our Lancashire network in areas of Motivation & Engagement, Maths Mastery in FE, and the use of Technology in the Resit Classroom.

Competition and Engagement
In 2019-20 we conducted a piece of research to investigate the impact of a competitive, group-based starter activity on student engagement within GCSE maths resit classes. This work was conducted with multiple partner colleges. Click here to read all about our findings.
VESPA Mindset and the Resit Learner
In 2020-21, at Runshaw College, we conducted a piece of research exploring the use of the VESAP Mindset tools both within the GCSE Maths Resit Scheme of Work, and within 1-2-1 coaching session. Flipped Learning and the Resit Classroom
In 2020-21, at Nelson and Colne College Group, we conducted a piece of research whereby we implemented Flipped learning into the GCSE Maths Scheme of Work for all learners.
